The Library Card

There’s something that happens when we turn 30…or are approaching 30. I’m not sure if it’s me feeling like an adult, me getting reflective and “wise” or if it’s just all of the things that just so happen to be happening right now, when I’m about to turn 30.

On my way home from work one night, I stopped to get a library card to the public library in my new(ish) town. I found myself completely surprised when I left with this giant smile on my face, like a kid in a candy store. My mother is a retired teacher and she is probably sitting reading this going, “finally! It only took 30 years!” This has actually been a few years in the making but especially over the last year, my love of reading and learning has grown.

Maybe it’s because I have been out of schooling for 9 years (seriously, how is that possible) and there’s a part of me craving more knowledge. Maybe it’s the part of me that ended up choosing a career path that is different than what my Bachelors is in. Maybe it’s the life experiences and health changes and frustration with the current medical system that has left me wanting to take my health and my life in my hands, and doing more research to make the best decision for me, instead of the one my doctors may choose (we definitely don’t always see eye to eye).

But this is only one of several instances and examples where I’m seeing change and growth and newness…and I’m not complaining one bit.

My library allows you to check out audiobooks and while they don’t have all the books on my “To Read” list, I have been checking out several (to save on Audible credits! ha!) and I have already finished 7 books so far this year, with 2 others in the works.

I’m currently reading ‘Super Mind’ which is all about transcendental meditation and ‘The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World,’ both of which are very interesting!

I’ve thought about doing a semi-book club as part of this new space with reviews and opinions of some of the books I’m reading. Let me know in the comments if this is something you’d be interested in!

What book(s) are you currently reading?

  1. Yes for book club!!

I’m currently reading all the kids books for my children’s lit class and it reminds me of how much I used to LOVE going to the library and checking out a huge stack of books to read!
