When was the last time you tried something new?

When was the last time you tried something new?

When was the last time you pushed yourself? Challenged yourself? Decided that you are willing to step outside of your comfort zone and grow into an even better version of the amazing person you already are?

For me, it’s been happening quite a bit the last few weeks.

I came out of July feeling exhausted. It was to be expected as I knew it was going to be a very busy month. I knew my self-care routine, workouts, and likely also my nutrition wouldn’t quite be where I prefer or where I feel my best. I went into the month knowing I would do my best, but where I would have grace for myself when things went off track.

And that’s exactly what I did.

But I still came back exhausted and what came with that, that was unexpected, was almost this lack of motivation or laziness to get back to my routine. My workouts felt unmotivated, like I was going through the motions rather than pushing myself. The snooze alarm won out time and time again, instead of reminding myself that it usually just takes letting my feet his the floor and a swig of coffee from the fridge. Morning meditation happened in bed again instead of getting myself up and to my seat, where I know I always feel best to move from my day from that space.

Needless to say, I knew something had to change. Something had to give.

When this happens, I know I need a push in a direction that makes me a bit uncomfortable and quite honestly, scared. So that’s what I’ve done.

I’ve been running more, further, and farther. I’m looking for races to stay motivated and looking at joining at running community in my area.

I’ve tried rock climbing. I had moments of fear and embarrassment, but then moments of feeling so excited when i got to the top of the wall and back down again without needing to fall to the mat below me.

I’ve put myself out there to meet new people, try new restaurants, and just see what life has in store for me.

I’m not someone who can sit by and wait for something to change, that’s not how life works. When you’re feeling stuck, in whatever capacity of your life that my be, it requires trying new things and getting a little uncomfortable. It’s in those moments that we realize just how strong, badass, and amazing we truly are and can be.

  1. Since taking the leap and quitting my full-time job to work for myself this year, I would say the whole year has been trying something new and stepping out of my comfort zone LOL. From promoting and selling my services to clients, reaching out to others for networking, going to networking groups and meet-ups, etc. it’s been stressful at times but also exciting.

  2. I am on the same path right now. I realized lately all I am doing is going through the motions and I even thought at one point I was doing new things, turns out it was just become more motivated at the mundane things and forgetting to take adventures or to try something new. I am making a plan not where I am going to write down new things to do each week and see where it takes me.

  3. I’d say when I started my job two years ago – so it has been awhile! But I agree about the need for trying something new and breaking out of our routine. It can be a good reset sometimes!!

    1. Starting a new job is definitely trying something new and can be very nerve wracking. I can’t wait to hear what you decide to try next!

  4. So every time we are at the gym I watch the ladies come out of the classes they have and I think, one of these days I am going to walk in and just do what I can. I guess the last new thing I tried was actually going to the gym. Baby steps but always in the right direction! LOL.

    1. There is nothing wrong with baby steps! But definitely, go try that class. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to do it again, but you never know, you may find your new favorite thing!

  5. Oh, it’s been entirely too long! Rock climbing is something that has been on my list of things to try FOREVER. I think I might need to take some inspiration from this post and try that in the next few weeks 🙂

Hope you had a lovely weekend, my sweet!!

    1. Have you tried anything new yet? 🙂 I definitely suggest rock climbing, it was so fun! I’m already thinking about going again soon!

  6. I completely feel you on the whole lack of motivation thing. That hit me HARD this month. I’ve sat down and gave it some thought and reshaped/figured out my goals. And yeah, I’ve got races planned. It does wonders for me to have something on the calendar!! As far as trying something new, that’s a little harder for me. There are only so many “new” options in my small town. Does planning for a “new” race count? 😉

    1. I definitely think a new race counts! I also think trying something new can even be trying a new style of book to read or anything simple like that too!

  7. A few years ago a group of my friends decided that we would do one thing that year that was totally outside our comfort zone. For me, it was taking swimming lessons. I had always had a slight fear of water, so taking swimming lessons was a real stretch for me. In the end, it was a great feeling when I completed my class!

    1. That’s awesome! I really want to take swim lessons. I CAN swim but I am by no means a comfortable swimmer so I would definitely like to take lessons just to be more confident in the water.

  8. I read somewhere that trying new things keeps life exciting and time will seem to pass slower… I think that sounds like a really good reason to try something new every once in a while 😉
