Homemade Make-up Remover

One thing I’ve been trying to do is be even more mindful of the products that I use in and on my body. While I pay a lot of attention to the foods I eat, it doesn’t align with my beliefs to then use products that are packed with chemicals and additives that can still harm my body. Over the last several months, I have slowly been making the change. As I finish one product I have around my house or beauty product, I replace it with a cleaner version. Sometimes I buy that product, but other times that may mean making it myself.

When it comes to taking off my makeup at night, I can get pretty lazy and tired. I love using a makeup remover and facial cleanser wipe, but the cost can add up quickly. I still buy them but I save them for removing my makeup before walking into a yoga class after work or for wiping the sweat off after my Friday morning before work yoga classes. These aren’t an every day item. So what do I use every day to take off my makeup? I make my own!

I seriously love this makeup remover and it works so well and comes together quickly. I highly urge you to give it a try for yourself.

Author Katie

Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 3 TBSP Organic Witch Hazel
  • 3-4 drops Melaleuca (Tea Tree) Oil

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients in a small mason jar and shake up.

  2. Give a quick shake before using and dip a cotton pad in the liquid and wipe over face.

  3. Rinse face with warm water and add your favorite safe moisturizer.

Products I use: Organic Witch Hazel, doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil & Melaleuca Essential oil

My skin has been loving this stuff! I swear my acne has cleared up so much since I’ve been cleaning up all of the products that I use and when I do get a bit of acne (usually related to something that I ate), it clears up that much quicker.

It feels great to be in alignment with all these various aspects of my life so I hope you’ll give it a try!

  1. I’ve used this brand witch hazel since I had in my teens? I love it! Do you know that it now comes in pads inside of a jar? Wondering if I could add the other two ingredients to it.

    1. Oh interesting, I didn’t know that. I’m not sure how well it would combine together with the pads already there, but if you give it a try, make sure to report back! I’d be really interested to know!

    1. I love diffusing my oils but there’s so many other beautiful ways to use them so I’m really trying to dive deep and get rid of products that aren’t serving me!

  2. I’ve never tried this combination in a makeup remover – just coconut oil. I know witch hazel has been awesome for my skin though so going to give this a go! I already have all the ingredients.

  3. This is such an awesome idea! I’ve never really used makeup remover, I always use makeup wipes… but i know thats really bad for my skin, so I need to get using proper makeup remover. Making my own sounds like a great idea!

    1. I think it depends on the makeup wipe. I use some that I consider “cleaner” and “safer” for when I’m going to hot yoga after work and don’t want my makeup running, but otherwise, I mostly started doing this because it’s obviously a safer alternative AND it’s more cost effective than using a wipe every night!
